## Summary

Semafor is building its first design function and needs a creative leader to establish a cohesive visual identity and design system spanning their news platform, app, newsletters, events, and physical spaces. This role suits an experienced design director comfortable moving between digital products, editorial design, brand systems, and large-scale live experiences, with the strategic vision and management chops to build and lead a cross-disciplinary design team.

## Required

- 15+ years in design or creative leadership across digital, brand, editorial, or experiential work
- Proven ability to own and evolve sophisticated visual identity systems across multi-platform organizations
- Deep understanding of digital publishing, editorial products, and reader experience
- Experience designing for premium live events and brand environments
- Technical fluency in physical production including scenic design, fabrication, AV, and environmental graphics
- 5+ years managing design teams and developing creative talent
- Strong systems thinking to create scalable design languages and governance frameworks
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, communication design, product design, architecture, or related field
- Ability to work in-person four days per week in New York and travel domestically and internationally

## Nice to have

- Experience across multiple design disciplines including digital and physical environments
- Advanced degree beyond bachelor's
- Bonus if experience overseeing production vendors, fabricators, and experiential specialists
