## Summary

Temporal seeks a Senior Staff Engineer to lead technical work on their open-source distributed systems server, tackling problems across task matching, scheduling, workflow execution, and developer experience. This is a hands-on role for someone with deep systems expertise who can set direction, mentor engineers, and balance reliability, performance, and usability in a large codebase serving both open-source and enterprise customers.

## Required

- 12+ years building and operating production distributed systems
- Strong technical leadership experience including design work and project delivery
- Deep fundamentals in distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, scheduling, and performance
- Production experience with Go, Java, or similar backend language
- Experience with high-scale or performance-critical systems like task queues, scheduling, or workflow engines
- Strong operational focus on reliability, observability, and debugging
- Experience designing APIs and platform features for other developers
- Experience with open source systems or communities

## Nice to have

- Cloud infrastructure experience on AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Familiarity with databases like Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Experience with Kubernetes controllers, CRDs, KEDA, or Argo
