Surfboarding is an older or alternate term for surfing: riding a surfboard along the face of a breaking ocean wave while standing, kneeling, or lying down. It became popular in the early-to-mid 20th century as beach resorts promoted the activity, and the term has largely been supplanted by "surfing" in modern usage.
