Muay Chaiya is a regional style of muay boran (ancient Thai boxing) that originated in the Chaiya district of Surat Thani province in southern Thailand. It is distinguished by a low, protective stance, emphasis on defense and efficient counter-attacks, and use of elbows and knees at close range. Practitioners study it both as a martial art for self-defense and as a link to traditional Thai fighting heritage predating modern Muay Thai.
