The marathon race walk mixed relay is an athletics event, introduced to the Olympic program at Tokyo 2020, in which teams composed of one man and one woman each complete alternating race-walking legs to cover a marathon-equivalent distance while adhering to race walking's strict technique rules (one foot must appear in contact with the ground at all times). It combines the endurance demands of marathon distance with the technical discipline of competitive race walking, and requires close coordination and strategy between the two teammates on exchange timing.
