Front crawl, also known as freestyle stroke, is a swimming technique performed face-down in the water using alternating overarm strokes combined with a continuous flutter kick and rhythmic side-to-side head turns for breathing. It is recognized as the fastest and most efficient of the swimming strokes, which is why it is the default stroke used in freestyle swimming races. It is typically the first stroke taught to swimmers because of its natural, efficient body position and is widely used in both competitive swimming and recreational lap swimming.
