# Bo-Taoshi

Bo-taoshi is a Japanese team sport, most associated with the National Defense Academy of Japan, in which two large teams compete to either topple an opposing team's pole (attackers) or defend their own pole from being knocked to a certain angle (defenders), resulting in a chaotic mass scrum of climbing, tackling, and pole-defending. It's known for its intensity, near-total lack of formal rules limiting physical contact, and its popularity as a spectacle at Japanese school and military academy sports festivals. Teams often number dozens of participants per pole.
